The issues of sustainability, sound land use, energy conservation, and the emerging green economy are increasingly important to the economic health and environment of greater Minnesota. Because of this, the Greater Minnesota Environmental Trust (GMET), a non-profit advocacy organization, has been formed to address these issues from a perspective unique to greater Minnesota.

GMET is a non-profit coalition of public and private institutions as well as individuals who are concerned with the future of greater Minnesota and its environment. Its primary purpose is to promote land use reform in order to develop green jobs and the economy, conserve energy, preserve the environment, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and expand alternative energy sources.
